Errata Page. Some Technical Difficulties.
The Republican political class has always displayed a remarkable talent for making fools of themselves. Even so, last night they might as well have made President Biden’s arguments for him. Unless maybe you take Donald Trump’s word as a “fact-checker.”
The Republican Party is losing more and more credibility by the second. Alabama Senator Katie Britt’s truly Razzie-worthy performance is only the latest example of that. Republicans are not politicians; they are actors. Although some are clearly more convincing than others, what they all share is a clear contempt for the American people. How stupid do they think we are? All they can do is say their lines, spit out their talking points, and go home on extended vacations, instead of passing Ukraine aid or keeping the government open. Every day, they live the lives of “the elite” they always pretend to hate (see Clarence Thomas on Harlan Crow’s yachts).
Who is leading the way on combating greedflation, shrinkflation, and junk fees? Who is helping America create “the greatest comeback story never told?” Who is working tirelessly to offer his historic support for America’s growing labor movement? Who is rebuilding our roads, brides, and schools after decades of neglect? President Biden is. And yet Republicans are supposedly the ones who value “hard work?” What nonsense.
Take the border. We had a bipartisan Senate immigration bill ready to go. It had the firm support of both the Border Patrol union and one of the Senate’s most conservative Senators, James Lankford of Oklahoma. And then, Trump and the MAGA wing single-handedly blocked the bill.
They had the nerve to call on President Biden to say Laken Riley’s name? They should be ashamed to say her name. They had the choice to do something to help familes like Laken Riley’s, and they passed it up. They should be the ones with a guilty conscience, not President Biden. They—not him—were the people who viewed their election chances as more important than her life, and the lives of others like her.
So President Biden should say her name again. Because Marjorie Taylor-Greene’s Laken Riley pin is the symbol of Republican Party hypocrisy. It is “the New Do-Nothing” agenda, seen for the absolutely disgusting masquerade it is: a platform of empty promises, obstructionism, and endless political posturing.
At the end of the day, Republicans talk. Democrats do. It is as simple as that.
