Well, it is official now. Trump is president, and he did not see the light of God.
The past week and a half have been a taste of the same old same old and then some. January 6 pardons for Proud Boy leaders like Enrique Tarrio. Commutations that freed convicted seditionist conspirators like Stewart Rhodes from prison. To be clear, Rhodes, leader of the Oath Keepers, was found guilty “of orchestrating a weekslong plot that culminated in his followers attacking the U.S. Capitol in a desperate bid to keep Trump in power.”
“No person shall…hold any office, civil or military, under the United States…who, having previously taken an oath…to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof” (emphasis mine). Do these words remind you of someone?
Then there were the unconstitutional attempts to undo birthright citizenship and Section 1 of the 14th Amendment. Then there was the government funding pause chaos originating in a memo from Trump’s Office of Management and Budget. An office soon to be led (if confirmed via the Senate) by a co-author of Project 2025—you know, the Project 2025 that Donald had “nothing to do with” on the campaign trail.
I could go on and on. An endless trail of vendettas, lies, empty promises, and political showmanship. What happened to lowering the price of eggs? What happened to lowering the price of gas? Both are up significantly. Blame Biden?
Or was all that talk simply a cover for Trump’s plans for retribution and power grabs in the FBI and beyond?
This is the time to pay attention. More than ever, Trump and his loyalists and his Project 2025 friends are trying to use the power of distraction against us. Truly, to paraphrase an old quote, “we have met the enemy, and it is our own attention spans.” We have to look beyond the everyday insanity—the bonkers claims about DEI and plane crashes, the fictional “giant faucet” Trump is pressuring California to “turn on”—and watch closely what’s happening underneath the surface. In the annals of power.
Which is why I am starting a new series of posts that I call “Notes From Underground.” In this series, I will focus on the more overlooked Trump-era threats to the American experiment, whether they be an Article V Convention or the plot for the so-called “Orbanisation of America” (what does that mean? You’ll have to tune in to find out). I will also try to shine a light on the overlooked ways in which all of you can help beat back the most dangerous parts of the Trump agenda.
For now, I plan on releasing these types of posts every 2 weeks, with a normal post wedged in between. I am sure I will not have a shortage of things to write about. So fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy 4 years.
